Title: Advice to Every Masjid
Source: Notes from the advice of The Noble Shaikh Abu Yaasir Khaalid Ar Raddaadee On The Role of the Masjid in Calling to Allah
Translated by Abu Muhammad Al Maghribee
Transcribed and prepared by The Editorial Staff of eDawah.com

(Note: this is a transcription of the meanings of that which is found on the tape and

not necessarily a word by word transcription.)

1: The people who frequent the Masjid must help the Imaam and

Mu’athin/ (Admin) of the Masjid. Everything should not fall on the

Imaam and Mu’athin/ (Admin). Rather, everyone should help them by

presenting their opinions, giving sincere advice, as well as seeking

counseling from the Imaam and Admin.

2: The Admin must call the Scholars and have contact with them. They

must have the Scholars give talks (classes) in the Masjid. This

responsibility thus falls on those who are responsible to facilitate this

affair (i.e. the Imaam/Admin). They should have the numbers of the

Scholars on hand. It is recommended to have these classes with the

Scholars or students of knowledge on a weekly basis.

3: The Masjid should offer more than one class in the Masjid dealing with

Aqeedah, Seerah, Fiqh and Islaamic morals and character.

4: The Admin should put up announcement boards in the back of the

Masjid (or places that are accessible and can be seen by all). These

announcement boards should be used to inform the people of the

classes, functions, activities and things needed to continue efforts from

the community. By doing this the people who come to the Masjid can

contribute towards these efforts.

5: There should be two boxes in the Masjid:

1st: For questions and fataawah. Once a week the Imaam/Admin should

get the questions answered by the Scholars or students of knowledge. If

the Imaam is able to look in the books of fataawah, he should look into

them to see if he can find an answer to these questions.

2nd: For Sadaqah and donations. This will help in getting the things that

are needed for the Masjid to continuing its efforts, as well as the funds

needed to give out to the poor.

6: The Admin should designate a person to stand by the door of the

Masjid to collect charities, this person should also hand out da’wah

pamphlets as the people leave the Masjid.

7: The Masjid is to be active in calling to Allah, (which is the role it is

suppose to have in educating the people). The Masjid should give out

tapes, books, and pamphlets, which are beneficial. They should give

them out at the right time and right place (i.e. Ramadhaan, when it

comes near they should give out things dealing with Ramadhaan).

8: The Masjid should offer classes for the memorizing of the Qur’an.

They should have a strong program for all different levels, for men,

women, young boys and young girls.  The Shaikh urges that the people support this effort by spending from their wealth to establish and continue this project. This is the most important thing that the people should learn and benefit from.

9: The Masjid should have community meetings once a week, if not once

a week then once every two weeks, if not once every two weeks then once

a month, if not once a month then once a semester (every so often). It

should be discussed therein what is needed to keep the efforts alive,

what is needed to benefit the community and others. They should also

examine how others could benefit from these efforts. This will be a good

means of getting to know one another.

10: The Masjid should organize community days (i.e. like going to the

park and checking on one another).

11: There should be a library in the Masjid that will consist of various

books on different religious subjects in order to help people stay focused

on the Religion. There should also be competitions/quizzes organized by

the Masjid, thus the library will be helpful in helping the students

prepare for such events; due to this fact the library should be accessible

to the people.

12: The Masjid should have a storage place for donations like clothes,

furniture, and supplies. Have trustworthy people divide these things out

and give them to those in need.

13: The Masjid should establish a committee consisting of two to three

people who would be responsible for visiting (and checking on the

well being of) the people (from the community); in particular, those who

do not come to the Masjid all the time. Perhaps they used to come but

have since ceased. The members of this committee should go to them

and inquire about the reason for them not attending the Masjid. They

should talk using good manners, giving them naseehah (good & sincere

advice) and trying to make them love offering the Salaat with the jama’ah

(i.e. in congregation). They should also visit the people who do come to the Masjid and show them the beauty and that which Allah has prepared for them due their attending the Masjid.  It would be good if the Imaam goes along with them. Further more, the Shaikh recommends that the Imaam be the head of this committee and the Mu’adhin also a part of it.

14: The Masjid should select a group of people from the Masjid to

facilitate reconciliation between the people. The Imaam should be part of

this group, which should be made up of righteous people who are wise

and possess understanding and good character.

15: The Muslim who attends the Masjid should break fast together,

especially in Ramadhaan and on the days where fasting is recommended,

like Aashurah, every Monday and Thursday, and three days out of the

month.  The Muslims should spend time together on the days of the Eid. This

would bring about unity, love and closeness as well as help prepare them

to call to Allah.

16: The Masjid should establish a website so they can post the Masjid’s

activities and its role in calling to Allah. However, this is under the

condition that righteous people who are skilled in this affair take care of

this project.

If the Masjid puts this advice into practice and establish it with sincerity,

they will see the fruits of this effort and the real role of the Masjid in

calling to Allah.
