Does the Father have a Right to His Son's Wealth?
By The Great Scholar His Eminence
Shaikh Abdul-Azeez ibn Baz
(رحمه اللّه)
Q: I purchased a farm with my own money with the official contract in my name and I water it from an outside source. Do my father and my brothers and sisters have a right to this farm or not?
A: Yes, your father has a right, he has the right to eat from it, "you and your wealth are for your father". The prophet (صلى اللّه عليه وسلم) said, "You and your wealth are for your father" and he (صلى اللّه عليه وسلم) said, "The best of what you eat is from your earnings and your children are from your earnings". Thus your father has a right to eat and benefit from it of that which will not harm you, fruit, dates, seeds, or anything which will not harm you. As for that which will harm you then he is not to take from it. Your brothers and uncles have no right without your permission.
