Stories of the Prophets from the bible

Question: Is it permissible to use stories of the Prophets found in the New and Old Testament as well as other narrations from the children of Israel?

Answered by the Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz:

Allah the Exalted said, (what can be translated as) ‘Alif Lam Ra. These are the symbols (or verses) of the perspicuous book. We have sent it down as an Arabic Quran, in order that you may learn wisdom. We relate to you the most beautiful of stories, in what We reveal to you from this (portion of the) Quran: before this, you too was among those who knew it not. (Chapter 12 verses 1-3)

And He said, (what can be translated as) ‘Such are some of the stories of the unseen, which We have revealed to you: before this, neither you nor your people knew them. (Chapter 11 verse 49)

Therefore the stories from the Quran are not in need of anything else, not the Old Testament or the New Testament, nor any other book. We believe in the other books that were sent down to the Prophets but Allah has sufficed us with the Quran and its stories, so we don’t need any other book. This Quran is a narration of truth ‘Verily this is the true account; there is no god worthy of worship except Allah. (Chapter 3 verse 62)

Therefore it is appropriate for us to take our admonitions, our stories, and our lessons from this mighty book. As for the previous books, then there time has come to an end, and they have not returned to their previous positions.  Because He has combined the meanings of all of them in the Quran, so the Quran became superior over the other books, and the Quran has became a replace for all of them. Therefore we suffice ourselves with the Quran, its stories and its information.
